This group of festival musicians (hayashi-ren) began around 1900, led by the head of the Nagasaki Fujizuka Mount Fuji cult in present-day Takamatsu, Toshima City. They are a traditional five-piece troupe as seen in many of Tokyo’s festival hayashi groups and belong to the Kanda-Oma school. The music features a calm flute and brisk tempo of a shime-daiko drum. Every year, on the second Saturday in September during the Nagasaki Shrine Festival, they parade around the neighborhood on a festival float decorated with lanterns and spread the festival spirit.
